When we walked down, it wasn't that long. We came to see the police station. Then we went in the cell. Finally we had ice blocks. We walked up the stairs. There were heaps of stairs. We got back to school and had our lunch. Liam

We were in the cell and it was fun. Then we went in the police car. He put on the siren. He showed us his tools, his taser gun and his pepper spray. He had a note book and another notebook. He had handcuffs. He let us go into the holding cell. It was fun. Estella

We went to the police station. We had a turn going in the car. We talked about his police tools. His vest was stab and gun proof. It was fun going there. Breeze

The ice blocks were so, so yummy! Connor

On Friday we went to the Police Station and we had an ice block after we finished our visit. Then a kind lady came and gave us some lollies. Finally, we walked back to school. Gracie

Today Duffy Theatre visited Mangonui School. The show was called  “Duffy and the Cloak Bay Bully”. The Books in Homes message was “It’s cool to read and it’s cool to achieve”.

First they played soccer and then they started the show. Gracie

When they did the ghost part, the skeleton was super funny. The skeleton did a dance. The dance was funny. Breeze

When Duffy put the book in his book, then he gave it to the girl. He put that thing on her head and raised the arrow up and down. Tyler

When he got his book out, he went on the toilet to read it. He said "You can't go to the toilet without a good book to read". Brody

When they had toilet paper in their shorts it was funny and everyone laughed at them. Tyler

When he read his book in the toilet, he forgot to take the toilet paper out after he wiped. When he did the show it was funny because were being silly and funny. Brody

It was super, super funny. Connor

That girl was pretending to go to sleep. The other girl was asking what was wrong. Her friend was being really mean and a bully. That is why it was called the Cloak Bay Bully. Estella

When the dad watched the scary movie on TV he fell asleep. Then the girl was trying to steal the cookies. Liam

The teacher was a mean teacher. The girl fell asleep in the show. Attalia

They both had to say sorry to each other. Rangitamoe

At the end the girl wasn't scared when the other girl was bullying her. The teacher was funny singing. Breeze

We found lots of balls down the piggy track. We put them back in the ball basket. Ashton

We planted trees by the piggy track. There were lots of trees. I planted two flax. We planted three hundred trees. It was fun when we planted the trees. Brody

We liked putting plants into the ground.  Papatuanuku gets more plants and trees. We can be kind to the environment. Breeze

We put the plants into some holes. Attalia.

I liked planting the plants because they are special to me. The best bit was breaking the soil for the plants. Liam

Key learning from session one:

1. Adults always need to watch cooking.
2. Children should never play near fires or cooking.

Key learning from session two:

1. Lighters and matches are tools to be used by adults.
2. Lighters and matches are dangerous tools because they start fires.
3. Never play with matches or lighters because you could get burnt or start a fire.
4. If you find matches or lighters take them to an adult so they can put them in a safe place.

Key learning from session three:

When you hear a smoke alarm

• stop what you are doing
• get out of the room FAST
• shut the door if you can
• shout FIRE, FIRE, FIRE
• go to the safe meeting place

When we were making t-shirt bags we were cutting the edges of the t-shirt off. Attalia

We loved making t-shirt bags with Pukeko. It was fun. Breeze

Last Thursday, Nga Ringa Awhina became 'Emergency Smart'.

First Lena talked to us about different situations where we might need the police, ambulance, fire or adult to help.

We learnt about the 'Five Finger Rule' if we ever found someone unconscious.

We learnt to put a person into the resting position until help arrives.

We learnt to say the New Zealand emergency services phone number and what to do and say when we call for help.

Seeing Bees

Beekeeper Visits Mangonui School

Today Attalia's dad, Iri, came to talk to us about bees.

My dad went down stairs to put the bees into the beehive so they wouldn't sting the kids at school. Then I went in my dads work truck. He brought the bees in a box to school. He also brought the smoker to school too. Attalia

Attalia's dad came to teach us about bees. There were thousands of bees. After we had finished, someone brought in the bee box to our classroom and we got to see the queen bee. Brody

We saw the queen bee. She had a red dot. Everybody looked at it. Liam

I liked seeing the bees because are so cool. Breeze

We had fun making the cupcakes. Me and Tyler made the chocolate cupcakes because me and Tyler weren't allowed eggs. Cole

We made the cupcakes. It was fun when we delivered the cupcakes to the classrooms. Then we had our lunch and got our orders. Brody

I liked baking with Liam. I was fun with Liam. When he smiles, he is very cute. Breeze

Me and Attalia had fun baking the cupcakes and I hope that they tasted good. It was fun. Ariya

When we decorated the cupcakes we put on icing and sprinkles. It felt like I wanted to eat them right now. Gracie

I helped Ilisa wash and dry the dishes. The chocolate cupcakes were upstairs and I was the only who could go upstairs. I had lots of fun. Then I went back to class. Liam

When we made the cupcakes we shared the bowls. After the baking we had a taste of it to see if it was good. It was fun. Attalia
